What is Congo Virus? Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is a viral disease that spreads through tick bite. It was first described in Crimea in 1944 and was called Crimean Hemorrhagic fever. It was later also described in Congo, hence it was named Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic fever. The disease is more common in Africa, Asia, East Europe and the Middle East. A recent outbreak has been reported in the Indian State of Gujarat. Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is caused by a virus belonging to a group called Nairovirus. The virus infects wild as well as domestic animals like sheep and cattle through tick bites. Humans are infected when they come in direct contact with blood or tissues from infected animals or bites of infected ticks. Crushing of infected tick could also result in infection. Infection may rarely occur if people breathe in the virus passed out in the infected animal’s excreta. Thus, people who work in close contact with livestock such as those working in agriculture, slaughterhouses and veterinary hospitals are at a higher risk of acquiring the disease. Once a human is affected, the infection spreads to other people if they come in contact with the patient’s infected blood or body fluids. Infection could also spread in hospitals during injections and surgical procedures. Hospital staff that treat patients with CCHF are at a higher risk for developing the infection. A person cannot be infected by eating well-cooked infected meat since the virus does not survive cooking. The patient may show general symptoms like high fever, headache, joint and muscle aches, nausea, stomach pain and loose motions. He may suffer from severe bleeding, jaundice, convulsions, and coma. CCHF is diagnosed using tests like ELISA, isolation of the virus, antigen detection, and polymerase chain reaction. The patient is treated with intravenous fluids and an antiviral drug ribavarin. Adequate precautions should be taken to avoid being infected in epidemics. People exposed to domestic animals or those undergoing activities like hiking should wear protective gear to avoid tick bites. Hospital staff should also take adequate precautions while treating patients with the disease. Ribavarin may be administered to people coming in close contact with patients.

THADAL DRINK

In Sindh, during the summer, people love drinking Thadal because it takes away your thirst and it also gives you energy and strength. Homemade Thadal will be cheaper, tastier and cleaner than store-bought.

Ingredients:

Sugar – 1 kg

Water – 1 litre

Almonds – 150 g (peeled and soaked overnight)

Fennel seeds – 1 tbsp

Char maghaz – 1 tbsp

Poppy seeds – 1 tbsp

Green cardamom – 1 tbsp

Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp

Procedure:

In 1 cup of water, mix and soak fennel seeds, char maghaz, poppy seeds, green cardamom andcumin seeds overnight.

Method:

In 1 litre of water, cook sugar and clean it as it cooks. In a blender, add almonds, fennel seeds, char maghaz, poppy seeds, green cardamom and cumin seeds along with some water, and blend well. Now strain the water from this mixture and pour over the sugar syrup. Discard of the seeds, green cardamom, char maghaz and almonds. Now cook the sugar syrup for 5 to 10 minutes, and then take it off the heat. Cool it down and store it in fridge. Enjoy your Ramadan and summer with homemade Thadal.

دی نیوز ٹرائب کے مطابق شہر میں رہنے والے لوگ اکثر بازاری تھادل استعمال کرتے ہیں لیکن آپ اسے گھر میں بھی تیار کرسکتے ہیں۔ تھادل بنانے کیلئے ایک کلو چینی، 150 گرام بادام، 1 کھانے کا چمچ چہار مغز، ایک کھانے کا چمچ ثابت سبز الائچی، سونف ایک کھانے کا چمچ، خشخاش ایک کھانے کا چمچ، زیرہ ایک کھانے کا چمچ درکار ہوگا۔ 150 گرام بادام کو رات بھر پانی میں بھگو کر چھلکا اتار دیں اسی طرح سونف، چہار مغز، خشخاش، سبز الائچی اور زیرہ کو ایک کپ پانی میں رات بھر کیلئے بھگو کر رکھیں۔ تھادل بنانے کیلئے سب سے پہلے ایک پین میں ایک لیٹر پانی اور چینی کو پکنے کیلئے چولہے پر رکھ دیں، ساتھ ساتھ اس میں بننے والا جھاگ چھلنی سے اتارتے جائیں ۔اب بادام، چہار مغز، خشخاش، سبز الائچی، سونف اور تھوڑا سا پانی بلینڈر میں ڈال کر پیس لیں،اس کو کپڑے کی مدد سے چھان کراس کا پانی شیرے میں ڈال دیں۔ مزید 10 منٹ تک شیرے کو پکا کرچولہے سے اتارلیں ، اس کو ٹھنڈا کرکے بوتل میں ڈال لیں ، لیجئے تھادل تیار ہوگیا۔
